Made with readers in mind, Crossway has set a new standard in page layout. It has wide margins, thick paper, and a large font. You know how I feel about ribbon markers and this Bible has my perfect number of ribbons– four! In fact, I think Bibles like these are better as extravagant gifts. Why four? The first was the ESV Legacy Bible, published in 2012, and recently updated in the form of the ESV Heirloom Legacy, printed in the Netherlands by Jongbloed and bound in an even more sumptuous goatskin cover. It is going to be replacing my Pastors Bible as my day-to-day Bible in the church office, for meetings and Bible studies around the church campus, and even for preaching. So today, I’ll compare it to some of the other Bibles I have: the ESV Preaching Bible, the ESV Pastor’s Bible, and the ESV Thinline Bible. I find myself skipping through reading a lot faster because there is more on each page. The Pastor wishes someone had done that for him. This Bible is impressive. This is my “by my side” Bible. A Smaller Single Column This Bible really feels like the younger sibling of Crossway’s immensely popular ESV Heirloom Single Column Legacy Bible, which features a 6” x 9” trim size and 9pt type size with section headings moved into the wide margins to create a cleaner reading experience. It feels soft, durable, and high-end. It also comes in a Black Goatskin and Brown Goatskin. I. (I hope to review the Legacy in a future post.) These are just some regular highlighters I got from Amazon– not specific for Bible use or anything. Overall I consider that the ESV Single Column Heirloom Legacy Bible is an excellent Bible that I have added to my Bible Collection. This is the Blue Goatskin version. After using it personally for a few months, I can confidently say that this is one of my all time favorite Bibles that I have ever placed my hands on. One thing that shocked me when I first pulled the Legacy Bible our of the box was how big it is. It’s a little over 1.5 inches thick. Paper quality - superb.
